Arkis Single Pass Tunneling Guidewire™

Arkis is passionate about patient care and bringing about healing through state of the art medical technology.  Likewise, Arkis’ attitude of continuous improvement challenges the status quo of legacy surgical interventions. Arkis develops more efficient surgical instrumentation, designed to be less invasive, reduce trauma, and potentially reduce surgical duration.  In conjunction with the use of Arkis' proprietary Single PassTM workflow, Arkis’ patented Tunneling Guidewire allows neurosurgeons the option to eliminate one of three surgical sites formerly required to implant a ventriculoperitoneal shunt.  The tool enables the surgeon to potentially reduce surgical trauma and duration along with the associated risks for infection, and unsightly scarring of the neck.

Arkis' exclusive Tunneling Guidewire Kit is a first of its kind less invasive shunt passer that combines a tunneling instrument and guidewire for providing precise steerable catheter implantation.  A Single PassTM of the Guidewire routes a peritoneal or pleural catheter from a frontal site directly to the torso, typically eliminating the third surgical site located near the ear.  The Arkis Tunneling Guidewire kit includes a pre-shaped guidewire along with Arkis' Precision TunnelerTM.  Both the Tunneling Guidewire and Precision Tunneler are hand malleable for patient customization.  The Guidwire's handle provides tactile feedback, indicating the direction of the Guidewire's traversal without the need for visualization.  The Arkis Tunneling Guidwire kit is available in pediatric, adolescent, and adult sizes.

Arkis Precision Tunneler™

The Arkis Precision Tunneler kit includes a disposable stainless-steel stylette and cannula with a robust handle featuring an interlocking cannula mechanism for precise steerability. The Precision Tunneler is sturdy, yet readily malleable, with a durable handle, for precise subcutaneous tunneling. The Precision Tunneler comes standard with each Tunneling Guidewire™ kit, but is also separately available in pediatric, adolescent, and adult sizes.

The Precision Tunneler’s interlocking cannula mechanism provides the surgeon navigational capability to easily steer the cannula. The trocar tip reduces the force necessary, compared to blunt instrumentation, required for subcutaneous routing of the cannula. The Precision Tunneler can be used for several surgical approaches, including frontal or parietal placements employing either cranial-caudal or caudal-cranial passes between the torso and the cranium. Stainless steel construction, heavy-duty handle, sturdy feel, malleability, and navigational design distinguish the Precision Tunneler as a high-quality instrument unmatched among other disposable passers.

Arkis Subcutaneous Guidewire™

The Arkis Subcutaneous Guidewire is a multipurpose handheld guidewire for efficient contour tunneling. Utilizing the same proprietary guidewire tip and technology as Arkis’ Tunneling Guidewire, the Subcutaneous Guidewire facilitates easy cranial-caudal retroauricular implant placements as well as torso applications such as lumboperitoneal shunt lumen implantation, intrathecal catheter placements, and other surgical applications.

With a much shorter shaft than the Arkis Tunneling Guidewire, the Subcutaneous Guidewire may be used in a larger variety of shunt placement approaches and other surgical procedures. The malleability and shape memory of the guidewire, as well as the specially-designed tip and ergonomic handle, combine to make a versatile tool for passage of lumens over tortuous short distances.  Arkis’ Subcutaneous Guidewire is available in five sizes including small, medium, large, extra-large, and extra-extra-large.
